Ok this is really off the beaten path but I just came across a really cool website I didn't know about. http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/
It will show you where every ship is, in the world real time. The speed of updates, depends on your membership, I got the free one. It will pull up pictures of the ships and where they're headed. I saw a couple freighters in lake Erie that appeared stopped and sure enough the map said they were stopped and showed a could Coast Guard cutters headed their way probably to break the ice.
Do they have the same kind of live maps for planes and trains?
