Tensioning trellis wire

When I put in my trellis I used polyamide wire and only hand tensioned it. After last years sagging wires I got on my tractor with a scale and a ratchet strap and tensioned the wire to about 250 lbs. the wire is rated to 1200 lbs but my posts probably aren’t. I don’t think I’ll have much sag this year.

I was thinking of using tensioners like they do for high tensile cattle fencing.

I looked that up on YouTube, that would have been the way to go when I setup my trellis.

I use these doo-dads to keep wires snugged up. They will tighten up things tight enough to pull the posts, which of course you stop short of that.

I use these same tensioners. I loosen them for the winter so the trellis wires don't pull on the end posts excessively when they shrink.
