I setup and then yeasted a batch of apple cider (4.5 gal) last Sat/Sun and now its smelling kind of funky. Starting SG was 1.100 and I used a Lavin yeast. The cider said "No Preservatives" and pasteurized. Is it possible that they are sorbating it anyway? Is there any hope of rescuing this or should I just start over?

Let it go you are just smelling what the yeast is doing..

Never and I did say never give up. Some wines go through a phase but most of the time its just a different smell that you are not used to. Did you use any nutrient or energizer?

Re: Smell

Yep, used a little energizer. Can that cause this kind of smell?

i had a sort of prefume smell to my apple wine at one point during the beginning and its turning out just fine

post your recipe more times than not someone could tell you what something might be
