A boy came home from school one day looking sorry for himself.' Dad,' he says, 'We had a spelling competition today and I failed on the very first word.'
'That's OK, son,' says his father, 'What was the word?'
The son looks miserable, 'Posse,' he replies.
His father burst out laughing, 'No wonder you couldn't spell it,' he laughs. 'You can't even pronounce it.'

Crickey. Very interesting. The UK version would likely prove problematic in most countries including the UK. Only a dialectal accent would save you from a tricky situation if you attempted to use the UK aversion In a public place.
