Serial number on glass carboy

So I believe the TTB requires both a serial number on every vessel AND the size of the vessel listed on it someplace. (?)

What have you guys used to mark glass carboys?
I was considering a glass etching kit from the craft store but I’m looking for suggestions.

I assume the label needs to be permanently attached?

I put serial numbers printed out from a label maker onto our tanks and that was enough for the TTB guy who visited last time. I also included the gallons per inch information on the label. The only other thing the TTB wanted was the documentation or in-house determination of how the gallons-per-inch number came from. I don't see why that also wouldn't be sufficient for a glass carboy.
