How long should one generally leave the raisins in the wine when adding them? I added grape current raisins that were still floating on top by day 5, i skimmed them off the top and racked on day 5 when the sg was around 1.020. Is that long enough to extract the flavors? I tasted a raisin before i tossed them and they tasted more or less bland so i figured it was time. The instructions in the kit basically state to rack at day 10 or whenever the sg has reached 1.020 or below...obviously the sg reached the number quicker than the instructions suggest.
