So, a little update on the old wine kit situation: When the gentleman I got the gear and kits from heard that the kits were all old, he was suprised and apologetic....I never did find any dates on them, but he reiterated that they were all purchased about a year ago, and offered to refund me half my money.

So, I can safely conclude that wine makers are good honest folk, in my limited experience! I'll use the money to buy a good white kit. Any recommendations? I'm thinking of a Piesporter.....and no cracks about sissy sweet wine!

I would suggest Sauvangon Blanc. It isnt sweet but a real nice wine

I too had a forgotten 2 pac of merlot from Costco. No date on the outside of the box but the yeast had a Jan. 05 date. I figured WTF and started it anyways. Well the juice looked and smelled OK and the yeast is doing what it should. Should be interesting.
