I have been making wine for a long time and keep losing the angled metal tabs that allow my #25 wine press to ratchet. I'm pretty sure I'm hiding them on myself. Every few years, I have to buy new ones. How does anyone else deal with this problem?

when I was using a ratchet press, those metal tabs had a small hole in them where I could pass a thin wire. I tied them to the screw shaft when not in use.

I did the same thing that JohnT did with the pawl. Mine has a small hole in the center near the top of the square side and I just pass a piece of electrical wire through it and wire it to the press. If you lost yours, it would be relatively easy to duplicate one with a small piece of 1/2 bar stock, either iron or aluminum.

I always leave mine in the ratchet so I know where to look next fall. I also ordered a backup set of everything (including blocks) "just in cases" …… LOL
