Doing a 16l heron bay s.a. pinotage kit. Got to stabilization stage yestday and when I opened the meta package it seemed to be a lot, so I emptied it into a tablespoon and it was almost half full. I figured that had to be some kind of mixture to help dissolve or something.
I called the tech support today and the guy says that 4.5 to 5 grams is the right amount for the degassing stage as there is more oxygen introduced.
5 gr. is equivalent to roughly 1.6 to 1.8 tsp.
I don't think the w.e. kits I did had anywhere near that, and I'm used to seeing sulphite additions in the range of 1/4 to 1/2 tsp., not 1 and 1/2.
Isn't that way too much meta? I've got another h.b. kit that's almost ready to stabilize as well and I'm thinking of reducing some of that.
Thoughts anyone???
Steve
