This question came up on another forum, so I thought I'd ask the experts.
Has anyone ever heard of, or tried, Hickory Nut wine?

what's a hickory nut?

Nuts from a Hickory tree. There are many varieties of Hickory, and only one that's bitter. The Shagbark Hickory is a premier nut, rich in oils and used in baking and other dishes.
Think Acorn? Beechnut?

cold season nuts?

I thought acorn was poisonous and needed to be soaked?

Yeah, well, that's why I'm trying to get info on Hickory nuts. Special handling, like you say. I already told this guy that the key question was any toxins that might be produced during fermentation, and how to prepare them (boil, pulp, chop, etc.).
