Hi All,

I trimmed my 4 year old Merlot Vine last month just a couple weeks before budding and just for the fun of it stuck 4 of the trimmings back into the dirt. All 4 of the trimmings have 2 buds each which have almost all opened up now. My question is will these produce any fruit, or are these like 1 year old plants? I've heard they will produce. Thanks.

You have done what a nurseryman does when he is cloning a named variety. Their next step is to grow out these plants for a year in the field/ greenhouse, with controlled irrigation to produce a strong enough plant that can survive transplant shock in the non irrigated vineyard.
With grapes rooting copies is extremely easy to do.

to answer your question they will try to produce as the buds should be fruitful. you will need to trim these off, the grape cluster not the bud, to allow the root system to develop .
