I've recently started toasting some american white oak sticks for another endevor and have noticed that with in just a day it starts changing color.
Can I expect it to do this to wine just as fast or will it not be as noticable in a dark wine?
I think the oak might only need to be kissed by the flame for a white wine or else the color change would really be noticable.
I was using sticks 1x1x6 and boiled it in sugar water for about 30 minutes before I put it on the gas grill. I stood there constantly watching and turning it.
