Hi everyone my name is Scott Irwin and I live in Hope Valley RI. I am married to a great women who is not is only my wife but my best friend. We have two boys ages 6 & 9 who keep us busy.
I do most of the work with making our beer, wine, and now mead but she helps with the bottling efforts....thanks hun! I work as a Senior Hydrogen Process Technician for Pfizer in Groton CT and work mostly with new compounds in development.

Started making wine back in 2001 after a trip to the wife's Aunt's house and she showed us how they were making wine in their basement. On the ride home I said "we have to try that" and it has just progressed from there.

In 2002 I started brewing extract beer and continue to make some pretty good stuff. Don't think I will go into all grain brewing just because of the lack of time. I still bottle so I can share with friends and have a good assortment to pick from.

In 2004 I built a wine cellar in my basement to store my wine and beer. It will hold roughly 750 bottles of wine and 5 batches of beer at a cool 57 degrees! We also made some roasted pepper hot sauce at the end of last summer that was a big hit with family and friends who want more. I hope to increase the amount this year and who knows how far that will go....move over Emeril!

This year I started my first batch of mead with Tupelo Honey. Just lastweek I racked it into a secondary on top of some Vanilla beans!

I also have built a great relationship with George and accepted the role as forum administrator on this site.

I look forward to continue learning how to make the best wine possible and already have gained lots of knowledge from this site. My ultimate goal is to produce a wine worthy of a medal in competition.

my mug....

I like to do new things and wine making is #1 on the list right now. My
son who is 24 made some wine with Welches grape juice a few months ago
and it turned out OK (I have been drinking it 1/3 wine 2/3 juice, too
strong for my tastes). He wanted to make another batch so I got him the
juice but he was busy so I made it up, that was two weeks ago and I had
fun....sooo...now I have that batch going and two kits too!! I have an
Island Mist Wildberry Shiraz I just fined and put in the carboy (I
think this will be the wine I like, low alcohol and sweet) I just
started a Bolero (Spagnols) Sauvignon blanc, I bought it cause it was a
23lt kit strait juice not concentrate, I thought it was a red wine but
turned out to be white

my son said he wanted to try a white so it worked out OK.

This forum is GREAT

I found it at work
and read most of the posts, I was going to rack my wildberry before
fining it but reading one of the posts expaining not to saved me, I
sort of knew, I am also a drinking water specialist and know you can't
get clean water real clean without putting in some dirt to give weight
to the smaller particles, I was just picturing stirring up crud like
the lees in the first racking...yuck what a mess!!

Well thanks for all the help...Frank Turner

Welcome Frank...glad to have you aboard.

I think the toughest part of getting into wine making is learning how to wait. While following the instructions is always important, sometimes steps don't progress exactly as described. This is seems to the case when you are waiting for your wine to clear after fining.

Hi, I'm Bert. I'm an agricultural engineer in Northwestern Minnesota. I work on a large farming operation, customizing ag equipment and working in the dirt during the warm months. I started making wine about 2 years ago when my wife talked me into it. Her parents had made a few batches of fruit wines and she thought it would be fun. I've pretty well taken over the process and she helps me occasionally. This hobby may have gotten away from me a bit. Istarted with 1 primary fermenter and 1 carboy. I now have numerous primary fermenters and about20 carboys of various sizes, in use. We make kits, fruit wines and meads. We also dabble in sausage and other meat smoking. Always trying something new.

I really appreciate all the good information I've gotten off of the Forum and I hope that people continue to share their stuggles, victories and knowledge.

Bert and his Polish Wine Princess out for a night on the town. Who needs a Viking Wench when you have a Polish Wine Princess?!

Hi everyone. My name is Glenvall, the vall part rhymes with dull.I have been making wine for a few years now. I find it hard to think of doing other things, but also enjoy God, spending time with my family and kids, camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, boating, drinking wine and beer, etc. I have done alot of things with my life. I was born in the woods of Northcentral Arkansas and spent the first 18 years of my life logging and sawmilling. I was in the USAF for a few years, I worked for the local Sheriff's Department a few years, and now am in Healthcare Safety and Security. I have also done nursery and landscaping work to help with the more month than money problem. I especially like making wine from blackberries and muscadines, but have also done alot of other fruits, including grapes. There are alot more wines I plan on making. Be happy, Glenvall

Hi, I am Martina and I don't play tennis or sing country music.

I don't have kids, but am married, and love to dance, spend time with my 2 cats and make wine. Oh yes, I like to drink wine too, although I am not a wine-snob. I have studiedmedicine and finished. I lived for 9 years in Germany.

My wine is the weird stuff. I basically ferment everything that Jack Keller doesn't have on his site, and sometimes does (but that is rare). I like flower-petal wines, and I like to do herbals too.
