I would definitely contact the supplier before boosting the SG. Last thing you want to do is boost the ABV way above what it should be (not to mention sweeter) due to it already starting the fermentation process!

If that happen, I would be thinking Port wine.
 
I have tweaked a few kits by adding more sugar. Although I read somewhere that adding more than 2 pounds of sugar to a kit is not advisable.
