This is a bit of a tall order. Used crusher / destemmers are hard to come by and are in very high demand.

I wish you luck, but do not get your hopes up.

That's awesome. Congrats. I've been scouring Craigslist for months and haven't seen anything worthwhile. The only things that were had a price tag that was probably double what they were worth.

But if anyone has an extra laying around...

you want more toys, I thought you already have plenty....:)

No, I still have toys to acquire. I have been borrowing a crusher-destemmer and press but I need to step up and get my own now as this fall will be my real start for production.

I say go for it Greg. The price of equipment is not getting any cheaper. It seems that the price of things has almost doubled in the last 10 or 15 years. I remember when a 500 liter tank was about $750 and was shock the other day when they were priced at almost $1,300.00.

Last I saw, MoreWine had "preseason" sale prices on presses, C/D's, etc.

Yes, I know. Over the last year all my resources have been going into improving our building and getting a proper mortgage on the site (we only had a short term bank loan to buy the farm originally). Now that that's done and most of the renovations are completed, I need to think about equipment.

One of the difficult things is we are not close to suppliers and are somewhat isolated in terms of being close to a critical mass of other wineries in order to share freight costs, etc. AND no used equipment around here.

I certainly would appreciate any suggestions for suppliers for all kinds of things (tanks, supplies, equipment, bottles, corks, etc. etc.) that can provide affordable service to small wineries like mine. Especially if shipping charges don't overwhelm the costs. Please PM me if you would rather not discuss this here.

You cannot begin to feel the pain in regards to shipping, until you start a winery in Alaska. What I had to pay to get stuff up here would make you cringe. Some companies offer free shipping to the lower 48 states on many of their items. Obviously, items such as pumps, tanks, presses, etc., do not apply.

Check out Morewine, they are currently offering a spring sale on crushers destemmers. They also offer free shipping on a lot of items.

Here are some vendors for you to check out.

Good luck my friend. I know full well what you face in developing your winery. Hopefully, we are done with most of our biggest expenditures for awhile.

Yeah, I'm glad I'm not in Alaska. Everything is more expensive there! Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
