I have read that 'legs' on wine are not an indication of quality but instead of alcohol content. That being said, I have made several WE eclipse big reds at around 14% abv but none of them seem to have legs. Any reason for this?

You are correct, legs are a result of the simple fact that alcohol evaporates more quickly than water. This is called the Marangoni effect.

As to why you don't get legs on some of your wines, I don't know, but perhaps the effect is somewhat affected by the glass itself, but that's just speculation on my part.

When I swirl wine and look at the resulting legs, I'm more looking at the color than anything else.............
