Well it's ant season here and I suspect all crawlers will be coming out to check the counters. I have been using a "low profile" pizza-type pan under my primaries and fill them with some water. It keeps them away from the bucket. Now if only I can stop the "B-52s."

Killed a piss ant climbing up on my bucket this morning, as a matter of fact!

We are living in parallel worlds!

I had a bad problem with ants last year, so this year as soon as I saw
the first signs of them I put a line of "diatomaceous earth" around the
house and haven't seen any since. I also threw some under the house to
get rid of the crickets. It's a powder I got at Lowes, 4 pounds for
around $9.00 and still have about three pounds left.

Not to bad a deal.

Interesting Goslin, what happens when the powder should get wet...do you re-apply often? I know of the product, just curious to the affect on crawlers.

Well it depends on the insect I suppose. With ants they eat it and
carry it back to the hive where it kills the queen, so one good
treatment should last for quite a while if it doesn't get washed away
the day it's applied. I'm my area we have some thing people around here
like to call a palmetto bug but it's really just a cock roach. They
feed on the compost in flower beds an such, it works on them the same
way.

I would say the effect was very effective

it hasn't even been a week yet since applying and I haven't seen any
ants since. It's also a bait so you would want to keep it out side for
sure. Now the crickets maybe be another story as I haven't been back
under the house since applying but I also have heard a peep from them
either.

The Diatomaceous Earth must have an additive added as a bait. Why I ask this is that we use a "Vortex" brand power filter to provide crystal clear filtered water for fish tanks. A "Diatom Powder" is added to the power filters which filters at a rate assumed at 20 gallons per minute filtering down to 1 micron. When the job is done, the water is as crystal clear one would not notice whether or not there is water in the tanks. And yet, when powdered charcoal is added, all smells of any kind is removed and further clarifies the water even more so.... And the fish are "happy!"

Hmnn...can this filter possibly work for filtering wine???

Hhmmm......there seems to be alot of homewinemakers who also have aquarium hobbies.

Yeah, it's a peaceful thang watching them late at night just cruzin' along while I sip my wine. Kinda makes one relax their mind which is too often obscured by endless details of daily life!
