I’m looking for some advice. I’ve got some Regent grapes that are going into their second growing season in Michigan (5b/6a) that did rather well last year. Some of them had enough growth to start one arm of a cordon and I’d select the other from this year’s growth.

I’m just starting to see some growth but it looks like the buds on the end of my hopeful cordon got killed, while further down I’m seeing bud break. Should I prune my vines like this back to 2-3 buds in an effort to establish a strong trunk, or just let it go and select a couple strong ones once they’re off and going this year?

I’m starting to wonder if Regent isn’t as hardy as I thought it was if I’ve got bud damage after last winter.

I have zero experience with Regent. But I have had similar issue with some of my vines. And I let them go 'as is' for the current season. But monitored them. In a few weeks you should know if you need to trim back or not for next year's growth. Take notes.
