Hello everybody
Wishing you well

It's my first post here. I have to say that I am a great wine lover
and also very amator in making it.

Anyway, I had this first question.
LAst time (some days ago) I made wine, I got lazy and I crushed the grapes with a fruit mixer. But when I was talking with a friend of mine he told that's not good. But he couldn't tell me why the fruit mixer for crushing grapes was a mistake. So I would like to know your opinion about this.
Does it really count how you crush grapes and if so which is the best method?

Thanks and all the best

Welcome aboard. One of the biggest reasons you don't use a mixer is it will chop the seeds and place very bitter tannins in the wine. Also if you are making a red wine the pulverized skins will fall to the bottom of the fermenter and hinder color extraction.

Thank you, Smurfe
Now I see. Do you think I can still drink it?
Would you tell me any other method appart from crushing it with feet or just hands?

Thanks again

Good question, I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago on a 3 gallon batch of Scuppernong and was wandering if it would be OK to drink.

Learning the hard way!!!

Hello 1ST tIMER

Well, I think I will drink it.
This crushing thing is my weak point.
Last year I crushed it with hands and it was tiresome.
I don't know why but I can't crush grapes with feet.
Anyway, I would like to hear how your wine did go.

Taste it and see! The taste test is always the ultimate one isn't it? :b

I test drove the wine last night and it did not have an off taste. I think it will be OK, time will tell.

Thanks for the quick response!
