Just for now, here's one more.
When their son finished school, his mother insisted that he go to University. Dad protested that they couldn't afford such needless extravagance. Mother insisted. When the son was established in College, he sent home for blazers, rowing togs, tennis togs etc. No matter what his father said, he was refused nothing. Finally he wrote that the College Ball was coming soon, and could he have a suit of tails.
Father was outraged, but his wife sent the money.
Later he wrote that he had been a great success at the Ball. 'Everyone said I looked like a proper Count.'
His father was disgusted.
'All that expensive education, and he still can't spell!'
