They were bad last year but by accident I discovered a lure. There was a local weed they seemed to really prefer so much so that if it were conveniently accessible would fly right past the grapes to get to it.

It was later identified as knotweed. So this is a confirmed lure.

Anyway I will have some close to the grapes given a generous helping of systemic pesticide!

Also I will plant a few 4 o'clocks for good measure but they will not receive any pesticide. This one is acting on a hunch but allegedly the plant is poisonous to insects. While the terrestrial pest avoid it Japanese beetles will allegedly feed on them and die. I will update with the results of this as well later in the year.
