Jack Daniels barrel

a friend of mine was given a novelty Jack Daniel's Barrel

It currently has a very slow leak but I've only been soaking it for about 24 hours. Anybody know just how long a 1 gallon barrel should be soaking before it's sealed up?

The only other thing I can think of is to use paraffin to try to seal the barrel any advice on that would be appreciated.

I’d give it a few days of soaking, probably in a little tub of water to swell it from both sides. If a few days doesn’t do the trick, and you know roughly where the leak is, a little melted beeswax is just what I’d do, should seal it right up!

I had the same issue with a 25 liter barrel, I filled it with hot water and put it in a vat of hot water and it stopped.

I have a 1 gallon "tasting barrel" that spent 2+ decades in my attic; no, I have no idea why I purchased it. "Dried out" doesn't do justice its condition. I did the same, submerged it in the sink for about a week, and it sealed just fine.
