Yes, very normal. I usually give it a quick poke with my long stirring spoon, leaning towards the door, hoping its not aggressive and hungry for meat. (Way too many sci fi and horror movies.)

This early you don't have to be gentle with the stirring. It likes and needs oxygen.

Boiled offal smells different. 😄

🤣 No, not often, maybe 40 or 50 times over the last 25 years.
The brew is looking a whole lot healthier tonight, and starting to smell more appetising. Much more winey. I’m not sure what it is but I’m never too keen on the smell of defrosted strawberries. Can’t put my finger on it.
