  • Mosti Mondiale - First digit is last digit of year, next 2 are the month and the last 2 is the day. 50807 = August 7, 2015
  • RJ Spagnols - First 4 digits are the year, next 2 are the month and the last 2 is the day. 20150807 = August 7, 2015
  • Winexpert - First 2 digits is the batch number. Next 3 represent the number of days into the year. The next 2 is the year and the last 4 is where the kit was in the run. 04 219 15 0252 = August 7, 2015, 4th batch of the day and 252nd kit in the run.
  • Cellar Craft & Vineco - Ignore the first 5 digits. First digit of the next four is the last digit of the year, while the next 3 represent the number of days into the year. The last grouping of 4 is where the kit was in the run. 03333 5219 0252 = August 7, 2015 and 252nd kit in the run.

Just started up a Winexpert WV Australian GSM with a date code of 50883 8022 0409, which seems to match the Vineco format!

I had to find and re-read my original post today, as I had forgotten how to read the Cellar Craft date code. :d

I just received a shipment from Midwest Supplies including a Master Vintner Winemaker's Reserve Pinot Noir Wine Kit with a batch number of 20181204. I'm fairly confident in assuming that this batch number translates directly to a manufacturer's kit assembly date of December 4, 2018, but am not 100% sure. Does anyone else know for certain?

Does anyone have an update on the "revised" WE code? All of my labels have 13 digits, but the reference above is for 11 digits.

Most of these principals of date coding also apply to grocery store items as well. I worked as a receiver in a grocery warehouse for many years. The 4 digit code is a 'Julian date', and is often used as a production date format. BB or Exp. is pretty self-explanatory, but if they give you a production date, when does it expire? We had 'cheat sheets', but the consumer does not! Reach to the back, and get the newest product!

Mosti Mondiale checked a couple and they seemed about right.
Checked the last one I bought (21220) either 9 years old or 14 months premature LOL

Winexpert has changed its date code again. See image that I haven't figured out yet.

I'm hoping it's the 21st day of 2022.

My guess is the first two are year, next three are day of year, and the last two are likely a batch number for the day. Hopefully someone with experience in the food industry will be able to confirm and/or correct.
