One of the original Mercury 7 astronauts, and the second American to orbit the earth, Scott Carpenter died yesterday of a stroke.
Scott was a hero in a time when we, as a nation, needed heros. He truly exemplified the American spirit of heads down professionalism and dedication so lacking in today's politicians and celebs.
Of the original Mercury 7 astronauts, only John Glenn survives.
Scott will be missed.
