I am making my first wine kit (Winexpert Lodi Old Vines Zinfandel). I have reached the step in the process where the wine is to clarify for 28 days, and then proceed to bottling. However, I have a slight problem.

I ruptured my Achilles tendon last week, and am now in a cast for the next several weeks. It will not be possible for me to lift the carboy, or even move it for quite a few weeks.

My question: Is there any harm leaving the wine in the carboy for an extra month or longer during this clarification phase, and hold off on the bottling?

Thanks

Alex

It will be fine. You will want to top it off with wine, keep it under airlock, and then get it off the stuff on the bottom when you can, but you're fine for another month. After that it will only get better with age. Bottling can be postponed for a year if you wish.
