I’ve found a super easy and quick way to remove labels from many (but not all) commercial bottles.
Keep the label dry, if you want to rinse out the bottle, do so carefully. Heat water in a tea kettle to boiling. Use a funnel to carefully pour water into bottle(s). Only fill to the top of the label, or you won’t be able to handle the bottle. Wait about 30 seconds and peel off the labels. They should come off in one piece with a lot of glue still on the label.
Any remaining glue residue can be easily wiped off with a little olive oil on a paper towel.
This has worked for me for many Bordeaux style bottles from many countries. If they don’t come off easily in one piece, then I just skip it, since there are others that will work.
And I like the idea of boiling water to clean the bottles before storage.
Hope this works for others.
Betsy
