De-gassing is usually done to kit wines. In order to stay in their time line to get a kit to "finish" on time they have you de-gas or get the co2 thats in the wine out by stirring it up repeatedly. You can also pull the co2 out of the wine by creating a vacuum too.
Letting a wine age in a carboy for a long time will also get the co2 to come out of the wine eventually.

Your welcome,How's that wine coming along for you? Is it coming down in sg. still?

It is done with most wines except for grape wines that are pressed after fermentation as that gets rid of most of the gas. After fermentation you will want to add k-meta, k-sorbate and then degas and either let it clear on its own or add fining agent at this time.

No. The SG is still at 1.040. I don't know if this wine is going to end up very good. Things have not started out very great!
