I just started a CC Lodi Old Vine 5 week Zinfandel with the crushed grape pack.

The person who I dealt with said that when you do your 1st racking, pull out the sock with the crushed grapes and start another low end kit with the pack that came out of the 5 wk. kit.

Seems to be a good idea that would add body to a cheap kit.

Any thoughts?
 
I have not tried this, but I haven't made a lot of grape skin packs, and I tend not to make cheap kits.

The feedback on the forums seems to be mixed. Many people think that all of the "goodies" in the grape pack are used up in the original ferment. Others feel that it adds something to the second kit.

If you're planning to make the second kit anyway, why not try it. You won't be out anything. But unless you're familiar with the second kit, you won't know for sure if there was any improvement.
