I am a newbie, so I have a basic question:
Why should I cork my home made wine rather than just put it in a plastic bottle with a used top, i.e. 2 liter soda bottle, or 1 gallon glass apple juice bottle? If I drink my wine within a couple of months after it is ready, what difference does it make? :?
I am making blackberry and grape wine.

You should stick with glass. I don't use any plastic because of its breathability. Your wine may become oxidized and ruined. I would definitely not use a pop bottle.

I havent found any evidnce of permiabilty with plastic bottles but it has been said by many on the controversy continues. I do know that certain fluids will make a plastic leach out chemicals and with wine being acidic I wouldnt do it.
