Hi all,
I recently came across some very interesting preliminary research looking at high-intensity lasers to kills weeds (in pot trials). I am currently studying at university and looking to develop this concept into a viable treatment of weeds in vineyards. I am currently seeking feedback from vineyard owners and managers on their current practices and initial views of the concept. If you could please complete this survey, that would be great! Interesting but how does it go about selecting targets? Is it ai controlled or does it need a user?

If it needs a user then on top of the equipment you’d have to employ a specialist.

I can’t imagine good things happening if anyone uses it aka burned or severed roots on a 100 year old vine make vineyard owner not happy.

Would it need regular maintenance/calibration?

I’m not trying to down what you have going but asking questions now so you will be ready when they are asked later by potential investors.

If I may make another alternative suggestion for this tech if I can be so bold. If you could roll up a wide angle X-ray with it so you could detect and destroy GRB without having to dig up the vine, then you may be onto something.

You may not be able to sell it outright but perhaps both by visit or part of a subscription/service contract deal with a more digestible upfront cost then you’d get way more interest, imo

But GRB which has VERY limited treatment options most if not all of which are targeted at the moth.

Either way good luck!

I think that could be an interesting approach for Europe, where legislations on the use of herbicides are getting stricter and stricter... I just wonder why you would need something as precise as a laser for undervine weed control - as long as you make sure not to burn the vine itself it will be precise enough. I also see a certain danger of fires...
