Hello all,
I have a RJS Cru Select Cab that's been sitting in a 5 gal carboy for a year now. I have been hitting it with 1/4 tsp of kmeta every 3 months.
On my last drop about a month ago, I noticed a strong smell coming from it. It didn't concern me at the time, but today its been a full year and its still there. Not quite vinegar order but close, prolly closer to the smell of kmeta in full concentrate. Would a splash racking help or transfer to a bucket to stir for a bit and back into a clean carboy?
Taste fine, just with a strong smell. not pleasing to the nose.

You have been adding kmeta every 3 months but not racking? If so you have probably got the sulphite level a little high. Racking it should introduce enough Oxygen to consume the excess. I have always considered the rule of thumb 1/4 tsp every 3 months to include racking the wine at the same time.
