Can you use a Champaign bottle for bottling? I know you cant use screw off bottles? Will a #9 or #8 hold airtight?

You could use champaigne bottles for bottling, they are a much heavier glass. I believe a #8 cork will hold tight. Years ago (40 +/- ?) I had champaigne bottles for bottling; at the time a made a batch of champaigne and used the plastic mushroom corks with a wire retainer. You would most likely need a floor mounted corker to set the corks.

if non sparkling wine why waste the bottles.use conventional bottles. get them at a winery, your nearest friendly bar or recycle location.

Agree ! - With the cork issues and the added weight of the bottles - seems like more work to use those bottles than to find and use regular wine bottles.
