Do I have to cover my carboys that are in my basement? There is no sunlight but flourescent lights are on periodically.

Although fluorescent does give off a bit of UV, I wouldn't worry about it too much when it comes to occasional normal room lighting. For long term bulk storage in glass carboys, you might consider covering it with a black/brown garbage bag or something, but personally it's been a non-issue.

I picked up 6 x 4 litre carboys in a dark brown " beer ' type glass on our local ebay for next to nothing.. might it be worth having a look on your local auction site? They don't block out all light, however they seem to work ok for bulk aging so far.
