Blackberry Wine - no hydrometer reading

So I take it that the wine I have made is about 11/12% which is ok for a dry wine.
Probably needs to mature for 12 months to get to a good point and drink.

I have a couple questions. Did you put the yeast in while the boiling water was still hot? Secondly did you put your hydrometer in while the water was still hot?
