I had a question from a friend about storing empty wine barrels between uses. I normally have mine full of something but in the short periods where I do not, I have filled them with water and about a tablespoon or two of k-meta and I change out this solution periodically, never letting it go beyond three months. I have also stored barrels dry by thoroughly rinsing with hot water and air drying in the sun. This is what we used to do at home with the wine barrels from year to year and never had a problem. We used to fill them with water to swell them and then burn a sulfur stick in them just before re-using.

Just wondering, what do you all do? Thanks.

I have 1 more wine to run through my barrel, probably in a month.

It will stay there maybe 2 months, and then my barrel will have to sit empty.
I am done making wine for the year, atleast red wine.
I will just not financially be able to buy another kit or bucket until the end of the year/fall.
I am either going to have to run DB through the barrel, which I dont want to do.
Or store with water or empty.

we will see how this goes
