Is it gonna hurt my wine taking off the air lock when taking samples to test it?And from what I gather from the beginners book posted I should lower my hydrometer in the test tube. I've been pouring wine in my tube after I set my meter in there and I'm like what the hell it won't float...lol:d

You should put the wine in there and then while lowering the hydrometer in spin it good as it helps dissipate the C02 in the sample so that it doesnt hold the hydromter up and give you a false reading.

Snowbird,
No it won't hurt to take the airlock off to ck gravity. We all do it.. LOL. Just put it back soon and make sure there is water in the "lock".
