    big garage sale fine

Very cool! I like the trough part with the drain. I saw a garage sale a couple years ago advertised on craigs list. The ad stated there were carboys available. Got there right when they opened in the morning. Picked-up seven carboys for $3 each. The guy use to be into brewing. Carboys had...

    Cheap homemade wine degasser

I used a drill motor and the two-winged paddle for a long time before discovering the vacuum pump. Now I just hook up the vacuum pump with regulator and pull about 24" for 15 to 20 minutes. This does the job great without having to stand there holding a drill.

    sanitizing solution

I know the white powder B-Brite is just a cleaner. Some people mistake it for being a sanitizer. There is also a pink powder B-Brite which cleans and sanitizes in one step. No one here in Michigan carries the pink stuff for some reason unknown to me. Maybe because it is more expensive.

Degassing Wine using a Vacuum Pump

Kewl! Thak you for the info. Don't know if I want to risk pulling it down as low as 500 microns. Think I will opt for a longer vacuum time. ;)

Degassing Wine using a Vacuum Pump

Thank you for all the useful information. Maybe I will perform the implosion experiment. I have a vacuum pump used for evacuating refrigeration systems. It can pull down to a few hundred microns of vacuum. Interesting idea about the boiling point of ethyl alcohol (172.6 DegF) changing...

Degassing Wine using a Vacuum Pump

I heard you can use a Vacuum Pump for degassing wine. Can anyone give me some good advice on degassing with a vacuum pump? It seems to me that caution must be used when doing this so that the carboy does not implode. :sh How deep of a vacuum, and for how long? :?

    Wine Juices

My brother moved down to Tennessee and found out that they also have the same stupid law. It is illegal to transport wine across the border INTO Tennessee unless you are of a registered distribution entity. If anyone in the Michigan area is looking for Chilean Juice, I started carrying it in...

    Corkers and corks

The hand corker will work just fine ...and offers great exercise if you are doing a lot of bottles! However, if you decide to go with a floor corker in the future, make sure you get the Italian Floor corker. The cheaper Portugese floor corker has a plastic iris and is truly a cheaply...

How can I add a citrus taste to Sauvignon Blanc?

Thank you for the quick replies. Do you think Lalvin D-47 would be a good choice for the yeast? I do have a spot that would offer a cooler fermentation ...somwhere around 60 to 62 DegF

I'm making a Sauvignon Blanc for my sister who prefers a slight citrus flavor to it. How would I go about doing this? :re

    Heat gun on shrink caps?

I use a heat gun all the time. You just have to be careful not the get the capsule too hot otherwise the capsule starts to melt and creates holes. I use a fork to hold down the top of the capsule during the inital shrink, and then take the fork away to finish it up. joe

    Greetings from Michigan!

Hello! I'm Joe (better know as Joe Wino to my friends) and have been making wine since 2001. Being 100% Italian, I finally found my heritage calling at the age of 41 to start making wine. My Grandfathers on both sides of the family used to make wine in oak barrels. They would go down to the...
