Help me with the code please

I bought an Island Mist kit and the f-pack was solidified. I'm angry that I bought an old kit. Would some please teach me how to read the code on the label? 39133 6123 0308 I do not understand why they don't use an expiration date like everyone else. They won't send me a new f-pack so now...

Having a problem with a pail

I've never had this problem before. I'm hoping maybe one of you might have a suggestion. I recently purchased a 6 gallon pail of Moscato Italiano from Musto. I picked it up the day it arrived and it was still cold but fermentation had started. Int. gravity was 1.085. I added 5 tsp yeast...

What yeast to make Woodchuck (a hard cider)

I'm not sure how far their distribution is but Woodchuck is an amazing commercial hard cider. They are out of Vermont and have been making it long before the cider craze. At $9 a six pack it's fairly expensive. I think with my skills I can make a close duplicate. So here is my question for...

Does anyone use their drill to clean carboys?

My carboy cleaning brush of many years is getting a little wore out. I was thinking about getting one off the newer ones that go on the end of a cordless drill. I see there are two or three different versions out there. Does anyone here use one that they would recommend?

    Who uses oak cubes

I've got 6 oz. med. Hungarian cubes sitting on 6 gallons of Carmenere'. How long do you allow your cubes to soak on your wines? Is there an amount of time where it becomes pointless for further soaking?

    Grape Packs

In the fall of 2012 I asked you guys and gals for some advice on my first try with an amarone pail. Many of you suggested adding a grape pack and it worked great. My wine medaled at the Winemaker Magazine contest thanks to you. Now I'm trying to find some more grape packs but the only one...

Looking for some help from my friends on Seneca Lake

Howdy, This past June I went to the Clayton Food & Wine Festival. There I met these folks who had a fairly new winery (4 years old) called the Ovid Wine Company. They made some absolutely fabulous wines plus they were successfully growing syrah grapes in the region. I bought a bottle of...

    Chilean Juice Pail Lists

Howdy all, We got our copy of the price list for Chilean juice pails. A $5 surcharge has been tacked on this year by our supplier and the prices are getting a little high for my liking. I was wondering what you pay for a pail of say Carmenere?

Did anyone here get Chilean pails from M&M Grape?

Hi, My LHBS sells pails of frozen chilean juice from M&M. He gets the frozen pails because it saves him money on shipping. Anyway all of the pails came in at 5.5 gallons instead of normal 6 gallons. We are looking into this but I was wondering if it happend to anyone else?

What do you think about this cabernet sauvignon?

I started a pail of frozen must M&M cabernet sauvignon 24 days ago. Intitial SG was raised from1.088 to 1.110 with dextrose then added a 1/2 pound of raisins. Used EC 1118 yeast. I racked it at day 10 and again today at day 24. SG is now .996. I added 1/8t of k-meta and pitched some med. toast...

Has anyone ever made their own concentrate?

I like making a blueberry wine from a particular brand of blueberry juice. Now what I want to try is making a blueberry port with the same brand of juice. I want to intensify the flavors a bit by concentrating some of the juice. Has anyone ever tried making their own concentrate from juice...

For those who add raisins to add body...

How do you choose what brand of raisin to put in? Will any raisin do? Do you just go out and get a box of Sun Made? I'm sure in California you have several varieties to choose from but here in New York my choices are limited. Your insights please ;)

Have you ever started a wine that you have never tried?

I recently won a free pail of M&M juice, it's an Italian Amarone. I have never even tasted an amarone or considered making one. All I understand so far from reading is the grapes are usually dried to concentrate the sugars and the wines alcohol content is higher than the usual bottle of wine...

    Cold stabilizing small batches

I need to cold stabilize 3 gallons of Cayuga White soon. Normally I would put my 6 gallon batches in a 6 gallon juice pail. I cold stabilize in a refridgerator at about 34 degrees. Can I put 3 gallons in a 6 gallon pail or will that be too much head space. I can do it in a 3 gallon carboy...

    Best Labels I've Seen

I have mentioned these labels in other threads. I have finally got the specs. My LHBS also does a u-vin business. He has been on a search for press on labels that peel off easily. These really do the trick. I soaked a couple today for about 30 minutes in warm water and they peeled right off...

    Other Vinifera Noble Reviews Please

One of my LHBS's got in some Vinifera Noble kits for the first time. I am unfamiliar with these kits but I have learned that they are made by Mosti Mondiale. For those of you who have tried more than one of these kits, how well do you like them and how do they compare to WinExpert and Spagnols...

    Quarts to pounds conversions

I was looking at Jack Kellers Blueberry recipe. It recommends 2 pounds of berries per gallon. How does that convert to quarts? Is a quart about the same as a pound?
