    Starting Sour Cherry wine

Ericphotoart-Did you add sugar to get to that SG?

    What R you doing today?

Did a little bottling. Some dragon blood and not sure what to call the other. Apple skeeter pee, I suppose.

    What's in your glass tonight?

It's been a while since I posted anything on here so hello to all! Who doesn't love gewurztraminer?

    Starting Sour Cherry wine

Tart cherry is one of my favorites, too. I was considering ordering some just today. I believe they have a bit of a discount on the cherry right now but I noticed the price had really gone up since I ordered it several years ago. Perhaps I will go ahead and order soon.

    Inexpensive wine storage

franc1969 Thank you! I will do that right away. They look like they would work perfectly for both of my racks!

    Inexpensive wine storage

Attaching it to the wall sounds like a very good idea. I wouldn't want to rely on that basement floor being perfectly level.

If I double stack these shelves do you think it would be too much weight? Double stacking would allow me to put one 5 gallon batch per shelf.

    Inexpensive wine storage

I started making wine last year. I tried to be as economical as possible by salvaging bottles, used equipment etc. My wine shelves were already overflowing so when I found this one on marketplace for $125 I quickly made the 2 hour drive to get it. My old rack has places for 69 bottles. This...

    Original Skeeter Pee Recipe

Well yes, I'm VERY proud of my boys! One is a radiation oncologist, one is a mechanical engineer that does design controls engineering and one is a officer in the army, currently serving in Kuwait.

    Original Skeeter Pee Recipe

Hounddog-It's clear. My son gave it to me. I have no idea where he bought it.

    Original Skeeter Pee Recipe

This batch fermented down to .998 so I transferred it to a carboy my son gave me. He said it was a 6 gallon carboy. It is 7 gallons so way too much headspace. I added 1:1 sugar/water and another bottle of lemon. Holy smokes I didn't expect it to do this! It's been going nuts! I don't think...

    Original Skeeter Pee Recipe

LOL Hounddog! Yes, I'm wondering what my final ABV will be. I read it should turn out somewhere around 10%. I've always had wine that was somewhere around 12% so it sounds a little weak to me. Not having had any Skeeter Pee before I'm not sure what taste I will want to end up with. I don't...

    Original Skeeter Pee Recipe

The skeeter pee I posted about last March was a failure. It didn't ferment and I ended up dividing it and adding it to some other batches. One turned out ok, one was terrible and one was darn good! I started my second batch of skeeter pee this week. I think I have learned a few things during...

Coring a large amount of pears

My neighbor keeps telling me to harvest the pears from another neighbor that doesn't want them so I can make wine. (Maybe he wants me to make wine for him, which I would gladly share.) However most of the posts I read here talk about pressing the pears. I don't have a press. I know they have...

Started blackberry and blueberry from fruit.

Yes, I used a fine mesh nylon bag, but in my enthusiasm to stir and mash I popped some through the hole where it was tied. I strained it through the same type bag and I think it's good to go now!

Started blackberry and blueberry from fruit.

I used the bucket and bag method last night. My blackberry was already at .996 so I poured it through a fine mesh paint strainer into another bucket. From there it went into two 1gallon jugs. It wasn't quite full so I added a pint of grape juice from my grape vines to top it off. It is...

Started blackberry and blueberry from fruit.

No, It's only been a few days and I was going to wait a week to check the SG again. It is still fermenting rather aggressively. I am also thinking that perhaps I could put a mesh bag into the opening of the carboy and the end of the racking tube into the bag, securing it so the whole thing...

Started blackberry and blueberry from fruit.

Thanks Rembee. That sounds like the way I have done it in the past. I just wasn't sure if a stray blueberry or piece of fruit might get sucked up in the cane. I put the last of my wine to rack in a jar in the fridge, too. I have never put it back in the carboy though. I just call it my BOB...

The bottom of the cane on the up side or the down side of the tilt? I don't know if this fruit will float or sink by then. Seems like it would float but I don't know.

Started blackberry and blueberry from fruit.

This is the first wine I've started from actual fruit instead of juice. I have 5 gallons of blueberry and 2 gallons of blackberry that I started 2 days ago. The fruit is in mesh bags. I've been stirring and squeezing the bags twice a day . I am wondering if there is a way to keep the fruit...
