    Can I stir vigorously to break up the cap at the same time?

    making my first batch with neighbors Concord grapes. Should I stir at the same time I punch down the cap? I have a “mixstirrer” Will stirring oxidize the wine? How vigorously should I stir?

    How clean does a new kit have to be?

    I’m new to wine making but have been brewing for 3 years. When I want to clean a carboy. I put a tablespoon or two of PBW or oxyclean in and fill with water. Let sit for a few days. Give it a shake every now and then maybe. After a good rinse it’s good to go even gets off thick kreusen rings.

    Oxygenate before pitching yeast?

    Sorry to piggy back on this thread but I too am a hombrewer just getting into the wine making process. I understand the reason to punch down the cap but it seems I’ve read a lot about stirring at the same time. If you did this with beer it would be oxidized and ruined. Why does this not happen...
