I got some reds in August of last year from Austin Homebrew. I like how they are coming along, but it's still to early to say for sure. I might try the Chilean buckets this year. The one's I got in August were from California.
I’m interested in people’s thoughts on this as well. I have 3 juice pails in my cart right now. I know someone on here bought the pails from Chile from Austin Homebrew earlier this year, but I don’t they’ve had enough time to be ready.
Update, I see the difference now, just the amount of juice in each kit. The light bodied are 4.8 liters, the medium are 5.2 liters and the full bodies area 16 liters of juice extract.
@joeswine When you do the Wine Lover's kits are you starting with the low end, listed as light body, kits that show around 7% ABV? I'm just wondering what the main difference is in the kits, light, medium and full bodied, other than price.
Sorry, thought I had posted my information recently. I made a Fontana Merlot:
Added juice and water to 5 gallons
Fpac made with blackberries to the must
1 cup oak chips
1 tbsp tannin
pitched RC212
Currently have active fermentation.
I added the Fpac after topping the juice up to 5 gallons and my SG was 1.104. I did not need to add any simple syrup to get the SG up, does that sound correct?
Going to start a Fontana Merlot tomorrow. Planning on a 1lb blackberry FPac in the primary. Would you add Zante Currants to that as well? It seems like I've seen a 1/2 cup suggested for this.
Standard 5 gallon tweak, with tannins in primary and secondary also.
The price has been jumping around quite a bit the last month as I've watched it. Depends on whether Amazon has them in stock or you have to get them from other sellers too.
