    Strawberry Port-Style Experiment

Thanks for the input. I've been using Vintner's Best fruit bases and going heavy on the concentrate for more flavor. Plus I will add extra flavor if it's not enough (having some fun trying stuff out!), so the strawberry flavor won't be an issue.

    Strawberry Port-Style Experiment

Hi All, Thinking of experimenting with something close to a strawberry port. I plan on starting a normal strawberry wine, and slow-feeding the sugar with EC-1118 to get it to around 18% ABV, and adding just a little red grape concentrate for port style body and color. Just wondering if anyone...

Red grape concentrate vs frozen juice concentrate

That's what I'm afraid of. Leaning towards the RGC.

Red grape concentrate vs frozen juice concentrate

Hi all, Working on my first blueberry, one gallon. The recipe calls for 1/2 pint of red grape concentrate for body and sweetening. I've seen the 1liter packages at LHBS for around $20, but I am also reading that the frozen cans of concentrate at the grocery store achieves kind of the same...

    Looking for fruit juice concentrate

If you're able to, please report back regarding the experience and product when you get it. Very curious.

    Looking for fruit juice concentrate

I would LOVE to try a pouch, especially with free shipping. But I can't find it anywhere on their site. Did you have to call it in?

    Looking for fruit juice concentrate

Preach it, brother! In all seriousness, their site is a little confusing. But it seems like the prices are for their hot packs, which they describe as five gallons sealed hot, with yeast and nutrient added, that begins fermenting when you open it. I'm not sure how I feel about that. Still...

    Looking for fruit juice concentrate

If you still have them and don't mind, could you post some of the Q&A here?

    Looking for fruit juice concentrate

Thanks Roy, I'm leaning towards them. Seems like a pretty good deal. And if you say the quality is good, then I'll probably give them a shot.

    Looking for fruit juice concentrate

Yeah, I've seen the kits, and I know they're more expensive than that. But those are grape varieties, if I'm not mistaken. I'm looking for other fruit juices. I'm still very new to all this, still feeling my way around the prices of things. Perhaps I'm simply not familiar enough with the costs...

Eh, perhaps my math was off. Didn't mean to offend.

    Looking for fruit juice concentrate

Thanks Scooter, I looked at VB before. Good to know the results are nice. And there's no such thing as info overload. All available info is good.

    Looking for fruit juice concentrate

Wow, $60-$90 for enough juice for five gallons of finished wine? Unless I'm missing something, doesn't quite seem worth it.

    Looking for fruit juice concentrate

Thanks, that seems to be what I'm looking for. But I can't quite figure it out: the "hot packs" are five gallon buckets of concentrate? Presumably each gallon making five gallons of wine? They're not very clear.

    Looking for fruit juice concentrate

Anyone know where to get 100% fruit juice concentrate for making fruit wines? I've looked into fruit wine bases, like Vintner's Best and the like, but I'm not crazy about the other additives they put in. Just want the juice, in gallons preferably. Kinda like what homewinery.com sells. Seeing if...

    Front sweeten or back sweeten?

Thanks scooter, that's very helpful. I've read about front sweetening (I don't know what else to call it), with people saying that the fermentation will only go so far and peter out. But you're probably right, it might not be worth it.

    Front sweeten or back sweeten?

Just a quick poll for those who make sweeter wine: do you prefer to load up the sugar at the beginning, or sweeten on the back end? I've only back sweetened so far, but I'm curious about doing it on the front end. Also, if you do it at the front end, do you still have to add potassium sorbate...

    Is ageing fruit wine necessary?

Hi all, Newbie here. Just curious what everyone thinks of ageing 100% fruit wines. I'm about to sweeten and bottle my second ever batch, a peach. My first was a strawberry that turned out pretty good. I liked it straight out of completion. I'm just trying to understand the benefits of ageing. I...

Thanks guys! Just needed confirmation that something wasn't wrong.

Holy crap, this is going fast!

Me again, about my first batch, a one gallon strawberry. I just need someone to tell me that this is not abnormal. Here's the whole timeline: Day 0: mixed all ingredients except yeast. Covered and let stand. Day 1: pitched yeast - 1.065 Day 2: opened and stirred - 1.055 Day 3 - AM: opened...
