    Wild Grape Suggestions Please

I have made at least a 5 gallon batch every year for 8 years now and we love the wine. I use 5 pounds of grapes per gallon and I add 2 or 3 pounds of elderberries to the batch. Lalvin 71b reduces the malic acid enough to make it just right. It does take 2 years aging though.

    Hi from Barcelona

I made beer for several years before making wine. The only things that transferred nicely from beer to wine was some of the equipment like a carboy, a hydrometer, airlocks, etc. Also, I lived in Barcelona for 15 years and I really miss the Rioja. Same wine from the liquor store here is not...

Eight years later I’ve made a good Marquette wine

So if I take 10 years as an average, then my vines might be about 15 years, more or less.

Eight years later I’ve made a good Marquette wine

I just saw the comment about cold climate grape vines producing better wines as they age. So, I have a question. How old are my vines? The have been planted in my yard for five years but, i planted large roots from a vineyard that was being removed. I don't know how old they were but the...

    Minnesota state fair competition

I just delivered 3 bottles of wine to the competition at the state fair. This is a first time for me, never entered any wine competition before. I entered a Marquette from 21, a rhubarb from 22 and a bottle of dragons blood from this year. It sure would be exciting if I got an honorable mention...

If you go back to the 50's and 60's you could lose your phone. Phones were owned by Bell and if you didn't pay your phone bill, they would physically remove it and you would have lost your phone.

    I’m a little worried

I think the drought affected the beetles but I am sure the grubex had some effect also. I have no problem with moles this year and my yard was a disaster last year. I think there were no jb grubs for them to eat.

    I’m a little worried

I am seeing the same thing on the south edge of the Twin Cities. I have not used any insecticide last or this year but this year I only saw 5 or 6 beetles total so far. I did use grubex last year.

    Pressing fruit pulp

"Butt bucket press" method as described by Johnd - Butt bucket press = one bucket with spigot + another with holes drilled in the bottom and sides nested inside + another plain bucket nested inside the second. Grape skins for pressing go into the holy bucket, plain bucket on top of the skins...
