Help turn my brown thumb green, some new greenwood cuttings, don't want to mess these up.

Thank you. I have left them in the bucket of water and they are going gangbusters, leaves sprouting and very green and alive, they look great. I give them about an hour of morning sun then put them in the shade for the rest of the day. Hopefully these will make it. Once potted I will keep up the...

Help turn my brown thumb green, some new greenwood cuttings, don't want to mess these up.

Thank you, much appreciated. So for now, what is the best thing to do for them, leave them in the bucket of water in the shade, if so for how long, then I assume move them to sand or pots of sandy media? Or should I just scrap these and get proper cuttings when they are dormant this winter? Cheers

Help turn my brown thumb green, some new greenwood cuttings, don't want to mess these up.

About 3 weeks ago I stumbled upon a friend who has Marachel Foch growing in his yard, for ground cover, he just lets the birds eat the grapes. :slp He gave me about 50 clippings, and I put them straight into a bucket of water and left them for a few days to see if they would grow roots. I...

Looking for Marquette in British Coulmbia

I have scoured the web looking for a source of Marquette that I can buy, can't seem to find any CDN suppliers that will ship to BC, some sort of BS about phyloxia... Anyway, I am trying to find someone with Marquette in the Okanagan valley, someone who could give me some summer greenwood...

How important is late afternoon, mid-late season sun?

Our property is on the south side of the valley, so standing on the top of the slope we are looking north, not ideal but we will make it work, I hope. Cheers

Planting from nursury pots to the vineyard...need some guidance please

For those of you in a similar situation, I made a very interesting discovery today when I went to plant these. In just less than 2 weeks, the plants I put into 5G pots, had already grown roots well into the soil and were up against the 5G pot walls. Amazing! how fast the roots grew in such a...

How important is late afternoon, mid-late season sun?

Thanks everyone, much appreciated. I am still in the planning stages, and still need to find a Canadian source of Marquette and a couple of other red hybrids, haven't decided yet, prefer potted, and prefer BC source. :h I was out there at sun up this morning and it gets full morning and most...

How important is late afternoon, mid-late season sun?

In planing my vineyard, where I wanted to put it, I can only fit in 20 vines, maybe 26 if I add another row. So now I need to find another location to expand to. On the other side of the property is an old raspberry garden, which was built years ago and was all set up with posts and trellis...

First year vines, fall maintenance help

Dennis, Thank you again for the advice. My rows are already set at 8' apart because of the original transplants, and it's enough space to get my excavator in to do some weeding. :db I will look at my layout again this weekend and probably go with 8' spacing between plants. I can always put more...

First year vines, fall maintenance help

Hi Dennis, I love the look of your vineyard, nice flat acreage and well laid out. What is your plant spacing? From the pics it looks like about 6' but could be an optical illusion. I am planting this weekend and figuring out what to put where. I have a plethora of posts, wire and irrigation...

Planting from nursury pots to the vineyard...need some guidance please

Thanks for the reply. It will be about 12 weeks before frost, tomatoes usually make it to late October without cover. I'll get them in the ground this weekend. I have the posts and wires as well as drip irrigation ready to go in as well. Cheers

Planting from nursury pots to the vineyard...need some guidance please

Hello all, You may remember me as the crazy person who transplanted 30 unwanted vines a few years ago, 6 survived and are doing well, I'll update that thread soon, but I now want to add to the vineyard. I have purchased 10 plants which were all in 2 gallon pots, I moved them to 5 gallon pots...

Transplaning old plants, stumps with new shoots help needed

Well I'll be darned...I went out this morning before I went to work, and hacked my way thru what are now 5-6' of weeds, with actual trunks, :slp and I found all the traffic cones I had used as markers to indicate healthy plants last year, and most of them had bloody big leaves and tall shoots...

Transplaning old plants, stumps with new shoots help needed

Well I just realized I haven't updated this story for a while....last year was a blur. I landed a large contract and didn't really have time to do much with the plants except water them by hand a few nights a week. So by last summer I had about 8 or 10 that showed hope but the hot summer months...

Transplaning old plants, stumps with new shoots help needed

Now up to 3 showing signs of life...23 to go. Not sure how long to give them to show signs? Anyone? If they are not going to sprout, I want to get some replacements in before it's too late in the year. Here they are.

Transplaning old plants, stumps with new shoots help needed

For those of you following this saga....I found 2 today with signs of life....tiny little leaves starting to sprout, and only on the plants with previous shoots still remaining, the ones that are just stumps, nothing showing. I'll post some pics this weekend and any more updates. We had a...

Transplaning old plants, stumps with new shoots help needed

Well 2 weeks in the new location and no sign of life in any of them....been 20C+ for the last few weeks or so, some rain and I have watered regularly. As this is new to me, not sure what to conclude. We are at 51DEG N, so always a bit later spring, but I would have thought they should at least...

Transplaning old plants, stumps with new shoots help needed

Four hours to dig the holes and plant 26 plants, they were all in by 5pm today. About 3/4 look promising with new fine roots growing from the old big roots, not a lot of fine roots but hopefully enough to get them going again. Still need to do the final leveling but the plants are in and...
