    Late Spring Freezes

It seems you guys may be luckier than I was... we had some really cold temps here in SW Pa, for 3 nights straight. I think one night it was 27. I wasn't able to do any sprinkler or wrapping... I tried plastic bags in the past and that didn't help at all. I saw your newspaper idea and I wish I...

    fungi spray

Yea, most are 4 years old but some I've just planted a month ago. They are doing extremely well it seemed until I sprayed that FTS. They all still seem ok - just a few leaves hear and there suffered some damage. I think all of the phomopsis is gone though... and that's a good thing.! So, I...

    fungi spray

Yea, I thought I had it mixed up pretty good. Although during spray, maybe I could've done more. I'll try that next time... thanks for the response! Btw, do they recover well from mild leaf burn?

    fungi spray

I sprayed Bionide FTS a few days ago, at the listed dosage- 2.5 tbl spoons per gallon, and I got some significant leaf burn. Is this an indication of too much chemical, or to many sprays? I've sprayed 5 times this season and alternated between that and Mancozeb. The Mancozeb seems much more...

    phomopsis & little green bug

I have what i think is a case of phomopsis... seems to be mostly on the concords. Any advice on getting rid of? I've been spraying mancozeb and captan already. Also, see pic of this little bug... anyone know what this may be??

    Spraying for fungus

So, when you spray for the JB's, you don't do any fungal protection? Or do you rotate the fungal inside of the insecticide? say... day 1 - sevin day 4 - fungal day 7 - sevin day 11 - fungal ...etc... so every 4 days they're getting some type of spray??

    Cluster thinning

These are concords, but I also have Niagra and Catawba... Thanks!

    Spraying for fungus

So, the Bonide FTS had zero effect on the JB's? Do you recommend spraying with the Zeta-Cypermethrin after they hit? btw, I've also seen a TON of June bugs here in SW Pa. My dog can't stop eating them....

    Cluster thinning

Hi -- I've heard this term before but quite honestly I've never had to worry about it... until this year! Wow, my grapes are growing like crazy and there are quite a few clusters.... is there a rule of thumb to how many clusters per cane ??? some canes have 4 or 5 clusters... should I be...

    Frost coming

Small.... I have 3 rows of 10.... Although they have now changed the forecast to rain, which will keep the temps higher. But--- has anyone tried covering them with a very light drop cloth plastic???

    Frost coming

Well, here I am... the concords have all broken out and for the first time, I can even see all of the flower buds and tiny bunches of future grapes! Much to my dismay, I checked the forecast for SW Pa here this weekend and sure enough they are saying frost sunday night. I've heard of some...

    Spraying for fungus

...but what about the max 3 applications??? Also, would you know the best time of day to spray? morning, mid-day, evening? I've heard early morning so the sun dries off the moisture, but would mid-day damage leaves?

    Spraying for fungus

Hi, I'm going to start spraying Mancozeb for the fungus control, but was wondering about the instructions...which are very confusing... The last line states only 3 applications per season, but above it says when the shoots are 1.5", 3-5", and then 8-10". Then at 7-10 day intervals... which...

    pruning this spring

Thanks guys for the feedback... yes, they are definitely on the weaker side. My first year, I had major deer damage...they actually ate them back to the original planted vines... I thought they were done but they actually came back! 2nd year, I had really bad frost damage.... then disease took...

    pruning this spring

Hi Everyone, I'm new to this but trying my best on a small vineyard... I had a lot of growth last year but wanted to see what should be pruned....can anyone suggest on my attached pic? Should I cut back to one main trunk or let it go in both directions? This will be the 4th season for...

    Pruning in fall?

Well, my plan was to make grapes but hearing you makes me wonder! Are there other types that will make better wine but still do well in PA? Thanks!

    Pruning in fall?

I have Concord, Catawba, Neptune, and Niagra... These were suggested to me by the nursery... they were supposed to be rather disease resistant for the area, but go figure...

    Pruning in fall?

Well, I did but not early in spring when I should have. It's so bad now, I just want to know the best chance of eliminating fungus next spring! Is scrapping and burning all of the leaves now a good idea??? thanks!

    Pruning in fall?

Hello all, I have a very small attempt at a vineyard that's in the 3rd year. Last year the deer devastated the whole thing, and this spring frost. However, they all came back very strong only to be devastated again by fungus during this wet summer. Mostly mildew and black rot from what I...
