    vinegar?

Hello. I am making (1 gal) strawberry wine from fresh-picked strawberries (4 lbs). I started by heating up the strawberries to about 200 for 30 minutes and let it naturally cool down in enough water to cover them. I added the sugar (2.5 lbs) and dissolved it when it was hot. My starting SG was...

    Tasting Wine

Mind did, too. I expected it since it had not finished fermenting. Should be completely done on 3/20/17.

    Tasting Wine

I am making my first batch of wine: a Merlot from Master Vintner. I have a newbie question. I have just done my first racking and have a 12.88% ABV. I am starting the 12-day period whereby I allow the concoction to continue to ferment. I sipped a sample and it tastes almost as good as what I...

    6 gallon concentrate to 6 1-gallon batches

Thanks for the tips, Scooter. The scale I have was used as a scale for mailing letters and packages. I calibrate it occasionally and it is always very accurate. I think I have a recycling center in Beaumont. I will give them a call later. Have a great day!

    6 gallon concentrate to 6 1-gallon batches

**I have decided on a 1 gallon size to start. I have been thinking I will do as you are doing (3 gallons or so size) eventually and for the same reason as you. I do have a digital scale accurate to 3 decimal places that reads in lbs oz or kg grams. Wasn't considering using it until you mentioned it.

    6 gallon concentrate to 6 1-gallon batches

In regards to making 6 1-gallon batches rather than a 1 6-gallon batch, I have pretty much abandoned that idea - at least in the short term.

    6 gallon concentrate to 6 1-gallon batches

I was thinking that the 1-gallon would allow me to better manage the initial learning and controlling of the process until I better understood what I was doing. Never having done this before, I didn't want to invest in more than I could manage and control. I figured I can always come back and...

    6 gallon concentrate to 6 1-gallon batches

I suspect you are right about moving to 6 gallons. lol. My thought was that I can use the 1-gallon equipment when I do upgrade and add the 6-gallon tweaks. Over time, I can add pieres.

    6 gallon concentrate to 6 1-gallon batches

I have pretty much decided to start with a 1-gallon equipment kit since I don't want to invest a lot into something I have never done before. I will surely start with a 1-gallon wine kit to start. I have noticed that the number 1-gallon selection of concentrates are few. Would there be a...

New to winemaking from Southeast Texas

Well, I was into drone quadcopters until I had problems with them flying away. Told my wife I needed a hobby that did not leave the ground. She recommended wine making. (I had already thrown that possibility around for a year or so.) So I have no equipment, but have been reading a lot. Hope to...
