    Bread supplies were running low

If I remember right from working at a pizza place in highschool those ovens ran around 450 degrees,. Conveyer took about 5-6 minutes to run through. Don't know if a modern convection oven would be able to recreate it or not.

Kombucha SCOBY in lieu of EC-1118 or Primmer Rouge

If it's for the kids throw some in grape juice and see what comes of it. Keep tasting it and you'll probably get a fruity kombucha type drink. Id be interested in hearing how it tastes.

Island Mist kits fermented till dry.

Yeah I saw when I ordered they had add ons for sugar and grape concentrate so I added both. I had seen several posts where they did 1 fpack at primary and then 1 to sweeten with. Im thinking I'll just dump it all in the bucket at once and see what comes of it.

Island Mist kits fermented till dry.

I've dug around some couldn't find an answer, can't be the first to think about this. Anyone ever toss the fpacks in at the beginning and just let it ferment till dry w/o back sweeting? I saw the LP BOGO sale so got 2 coming, don't care much for sweet wine but the flavors on these kits have...

    Winexpert LE18 thoughts?

Don't worry about the age as long as it was stored properly. I bought a LE15 Fortitude kit 3 weeks ago at a steep discount from the local brew shop that's going out of business. That's a LE15, so it came out early 2016, so it's been on the shelf for 4 years. Fermented fine with the yeast that...

    Making wine racks

Here's the drawings for the one I built. I will say it fits Bordeaux bottles fine, but if you get into the fatter burgundy it gets tighter, champagne does not fit at all. If going this style I'd suggest making a small mock up of maybe 4 squares and testing the bottles you want. If using a jig...

    Star San Corks

First batch I ever made I star-saned the corks, it glued the corks in. I don't know if the acid loosened the adhesive used to hold the bits of cork together or if just the star san itself left behind a residue but those were the hardest to open bottles ever. Had the set them on the floor between...

    Kit Wine Taste

I don't, it's literally this https://www.allinonewinepump.com/product/headspace-eliminator/ on the carboy. and I use https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NP60URE/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 style of pump to pump it down. I only drag the all in one out to transfer/rack I don't degas all at once, I...

    Kit Wine Taste

    1. Yes, I just let it sit around until it clears, I'm pretty lazy in my wine making a few extra weeks/months/whatever in a carboy isn't going to hurt anything as long as it's sealed. I don't long term bulk age but I haven't found anything bad about letting it sit a few months even if there's...

    Opening Wine Bags

I take a small pocket knife and slip it under the side of the cap and cut from the bottom to the top. This loosens it enough it just comes off by hand.

    Lawn equipment/motor advice needed

Saw the spraying comments and wanted to add I had a mess if this ivy in my yard, "2,4-D" ( "two four D" if asking for it as shop) will kill it DEAD. Its a broad-leaf herbicide so watch it around trees but doesn't hurt a lot of grasses. Do not spray the soil, it's absorbed through the leaves and...

    WineXpert New Forza Kit

All the WE kits I've gotten came with the EC-1118 as backup. I always pitch the other one by itself first and throw the 1118 in there after a week just to make sure it goes dry in secondary. I don't think it's really needed in most cases, I don't take many SG reading to tell though, as long as...

    Topping up the Carboy

Cookware is a different type of glass; Pyrex or borosilicate glass isn't as susceptible to cracking from heat as normal glass but can still break if it's extreme enough. If you want to try it take a wine bottle and alternate running under a hot tap and dunking it in a bowl of ice water, it'll...

    Topping up the Carboy

No balloon inside the carboy it just sucks the air out. The bulb on there just stays deflated so you know you still have vacuum. A handheld brake bleeder pump works just fine for it, and despite owning a all-in-one pump I still keep a manual pump next to the carboy for the headspace eliminator...

    Kit Wine Taste

I had the same experience with the first wine kit I made, couldn't figure out why it tasted off. First was some of the off flavor I was getting was CO2, the second was from chilling the wine. I don't know what causes it, pectic enzymes maybe? but if I leave a bottle of wine from the first few...

Trying to design a liquor/wine cabinet

Google Sketchup is free and pretty easy to use, never done it before I started this last night. It's measured for a certain spot where it'll be between a wall and a doorway. But its 9 bottles wide and I usually only get 27/28 after rackings, so each batch will be 3 rows so I can get 4 batches...

WineXpert Just tried my first 2 WE kits this weekend. I'm hooked!

I was also kinda of wondering how much of the difference was in the quality of the kits. I'll try filtering it and re-bottling and see what happens when I get this carboy freed up.
