    Best Trade Ever!!

Check out what I just scored :) It’s handmade, hand carved and old! I’m stoked :try It had been sitting in a shed and was super dusty, so I cleaned it up and did a tiny bit of maintenance work on it in the process. Fortunately it wasn’t greasy like how an old item that might have been in a...

June 2014 Wine of the Month Club

While I won't be able to participate in June's Wine of the Month, perhaps another time I'll be able to, but I've got a question... In a month's time, what would one actually be able to share, since the wine would still be sitting in secondary probably awaiting its first racking? 4 weeks after...

    "Yeasty" Aftertaste

And Kudos to you, because the why's and how's of things promote our understandings of the what's and when's of things. Thank you very much for your consistent explanations, you've no idea of the value you add to our learning!!

    "Fall clear" meaning

The only wine I've seen fall clear was the Skeeter Pee, and it wasn't something that one could sit and watch happen... but one day it was cloudy, and 2 days later it was clear with about half an inch of sediment. I racked it then, and let it continue to age for about 4 weeks, 'cuz I wasn't able...

Trust Seth. He's kinda smart about these things ;)

    "Cool and dark"...what's the definition?

Oh oh... so I should find somewhere else in my tiny house to place my 9-bottle rack that holds the soon-to-be-enjoyed bottles? Top of the fridge is about the only place there's room... but the bottles never stay there for more than a couple weeks, is that OK?

    Rhubarb and Pineapple Bottled

Given that I've only made 4 batches of wine in my life (not counting some hootch as a teenager), and given that the Skeeter Pee was the only batch I used nutrient, energizer, tannin or campden in, I'm far from being any kind of expert. However, the palate in my imagination thinks this should be...

    Skeeter Pee Bottled

Thank you, Roy, that's a fine compliment :) Dave, then that's what I'll do. I like your idea :)

    Is This Clear Enough?

No clue! Didn't think to take a reading before bottling. Oops ;)

    Rhubarb and Pineapple Bottled

On this web site http://www.savor-the-rhubarb.com/rhubarb-wine.html I looked at the different recipes and took some ideas from each of them to come up with my own. Since it was my first wine, I didn't think to write down the recipe or the steps, but I didn't use anything other than fruit, sugar...

    Is This Clear Enough?

    Yes, I did.

What Are Good Vegetable Wines For Beginners To Try?

I did a 5 gallon batch of beet wine last fall. Turned out marvelous! Just prior to that I'd done a 1 gallon experiment with different ingredients, and it turned out great too. PM me for the recipe if you're interested.

    Is This Clear Enough?

8/12/13 – 1.116 SG 9/8/13 - 0.994 SG Calculator says this works out to be 16.28. Label says 17%, close enough for personal use. It's not as sweet as a dessert wine, but nowhere near dry, either.

    Skeeter Pee bottled finally!!

Beautiful wine!!! Beautiful label!!! Congratulations, you should be so proud!!! How'd yours turn out so yellow, and mine is much more um, like with less color?? I love the boiling water method, using dry heat just didn't work out at all for me. But it must be at a rolling boil, for sure.

    Skeeter Pee Bottled

Yes, I want to, very much. But I've only got 5 gallon carboys and primary buckets, and your recipe is for 6 gallons. Not sure how to tweak your recipe to 5 gallons, and not sure if doing my 5 gallon carboy and a 1 gallon jug, using two 5-gallon primaries for the must, will work. What say you...

    Is This Clear Enough?

The entire carboy was clear, with less than 1/4" of sediment on the bottom when I bottled this batch. Sadly only 3 1/2 bottles from the gallon due to my regular tasting experiments prior to bottling. The gallon took 2 pineapples, I'd like to do a 5-gallon batch, but that's 10 pineapples and...

    Skeeter Pee Bottled

I used the degassing whip with my drill on it a lot, too... I know that helped with its final flavor. Have you degassed?

    Skeeter Pee Bottled

This batch isn't at all hot. But I let it sit in the carboy after it'd cleared, for quite awhile 'cuz I didn't have time to bottle it. Maybe that's what made the difference. What's your ABV?
