    Rooted Muscadines

kEEPING MUSCADINE ROOTED CUTTINGS The best way to over winter rooted Muscadine cuttings is to keep them in a shaded cold frame. That way the temp. does not fluctuate too much and the temp. doesn't go much below freezing. I have a small Muscadine propagation business and last winter I put all...

    Blueberry Farmer thinking of Muscadines

There are a few good suppliers of Muscadine vines and some you must stay away from like TY TY. They have a great Website but a very bad reputation. The biggest and the best one is Ison's. I too propagate and sell vines at www.MuscadinesAndMore.com I would be happy to answer any questions that...

Stunted Grape Growth - need help

I would adjust the PH to about 6.5, ad a little sulfur around each vine, no more than 1/4 cup/ vine. Then recheck the PH a few weeks later. How often do you fertilize and what do you fertilize with? Hans www.MuscadinesAndMore.com

Ideas for preping muscadine vines for winter

I know it is a bit early, but due to the extremely cold winter I lost about 20% of my muscadine vines. They just didn't like the 4 degree nights. Any one have any ideas as to what one can do to insulate the vines incase we get another cold winter next year? My idea is to bubble wrap the trunks...

    My 2014 Muscadine forecast

I'm glad your muscadines made it this last winter. In my neck of the woods, Dalton Ga. it got down to 2 deg. and I lost about 20% of my vines. I was lucky though I had plenty of young vines that I propagated so that I can replace them. Hans www.MuscadinesAndMore.com

I also used Wire-Vise tensioners, love them, easy to use and cheap. You can get them at Agri Supply including the 12.5 high tensile wire , both at a good price. Check them out at www.AgriSupply.com. Good luck. Hans

    A New toy

I found a new way to fasten the wire to the end posts using a quick end that only cost about $1.43 each. I used this new device to attach 14 wires to my newly expanded vineyard section. It took less that an hour to attach all 14 wires. I admit they were very short runs of only 25' but the device...

    Installation of 4’ end posts

More problems, Yesterday I installed double 2x4 cross bars at the top of my 14 end posts since I will be running 4 cordons from each vine. Every 4” post was some what loose even though I taped the soil around each post. Every couple of days it’s been raining here. The soil around each post...

    Replanting older vines

You should not have any problems as long as they are dormant. It will probably stunt their growth the first year or two, but in the long run they should be fine. Hans www.MuscadinesAndMore.com

    Installation of 4’ end posts

5' end posts Muscadine vines are traditionally grown on 5' high wires where as grape vines mostly on 6' high wires. I guess the main reason for that is that must muscadines grow very close to the cordons. The 5' height makes them easier to pick. From my experience grapes grow further away...

    Installation of 4’ end posts

Installation of 4’ end posts I installed (14) 4” end posts in my new Muscadine section. The rows are very short, only 25’. I planted each post 2’ deep and compacted the soil around each post with a pick ax handle. When I installed them about 2-3 weeks ago the posts were solid and steady. When...

    Freezing temps in Ga.

Looks like the near 0 deg. weather is over for mow here in Dalton, GA. It will be close to 60 by the week end. Since it is safe for now, today I move my containered muscadines back out side, hopefully for the rest of the winter. I do have to plant them ASAP. Hans
